Krishna Shah, the maker of India’s first international film Shalimar, passed away last week at his residence in Los Angeles. That movie was released internationally under the title Raiders of the Sacred Stone. Though the movie was a flop, it acquired a cult status later and was praised of being much ahead of its time. Additionally, the music in the movie also became a major hit with the music director R.D.Burman being awarded the Filmfare Award for the Best Music. It swept away all music awards that year as Kishore Kumar won the best singer male award and Usha Uthup won the best singer female award for the iconic song One Two Cha Cha Cha.
Krishna Shah was a UCLA and Yale graduate. Shah who, was born in India, is the first Asian-American writer/director/producer who has won critical acclaim on Broadway and in Hollywood. He made highly acclaimed movies like The Prince Of Light, River Niger, Island In Harlem, April Morning.
In the past few years, Shah had been involved with films about India and also planned on a biopic about Indira Gandhi. He passed away because of an illness he has been suffering from since his stroke last year. May his soul rest in peace…
