Om Puri is one of those rare and sensational actors that come in your life as a blessing. Agreed is the fact that he is a play boy and also agreed is the fact that he is violent towards his wife. Summing it up, his personal life is not as happy as it seems. He is not only disloyal but also violent. But all this has nothing to with his career and professional life.
Om Puri started off is career with Ghashiram Kotwal in the year 1976. He studied drama at the National School of Drama around the same time when Naseeruddin Shah was also studying.Om Puri mostly acted in art films and belonged to the genre of parallel cinema. He also appeared in many British and English language film.
A very interesting thing about Om Puri is his choice of roles. So typical yet so beautifully portrayed. He’s done a dozen roles with extreme characters and has always managed to get under the skin of each and every character.
In 1999 he appeared in a British film, East in East where he portrayed the role of a Pakistani father who lives in the United Kingdom and struggles to accepts the norms and culture of the west. His performance was hilarious and got him a nomination at the BAFTA Awards.
His most notable performance were in movies like Aakrosh, Arohan, Ardh Satya and My Son the Fanatic.
