The Karan-Arjun Effect

Buzz around B-Town is that YRF is bringing Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan together for a movie that initially had Ranveer Singh with SRK. We’re still waiting for an official announcement and know that we shouldn’t get too excited over a possible rumour, we cannot keep calm!

For years, we’ve waited for Bhai and King Khan to patch up and star in a film together. Why? Because when two megastars are in a single frame, the result is awesome! Here’s 4 times that happened:

Karan – Arjun

The year was 1995 and the rebirth theme had already been done to death. However, thanks to Salman and SRK, cinephiles flocked to theatres to watch the saga of two brothers and their destitute mother. “Mere Karan-Arjun aayenge” is kind of like an anthem now.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

When a film’s heroine is torn between 2 guys, it’s usually very easy for us to take sides (mostly because one of the guys is a nasty dude picked by the girl’s daddy). However, when Kajol couldn’t decide between Aman (Salman) and Rahul (SRK), we were just as confused as her. That’s the Salman-SRK effect.

Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega

So maybe Shah Rukh wasn’t around for very long and HDJPK was essentially a Salman film, but whatever screen space they shared was good enough for the film to get noticed. Honestly, the film wasn’t all that great but the good-looking boys made it worth the watch.

Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega

Hum Tumhaare Hain Sanam

Shah Rukh and Salman were in very contrasting roles in Hum Tumhaare Hain Sanam. While Sallu was a soft-spoken, free-spirited being, SRK’s character was that of a no-nonsense, irritable and slightly patriarchal man. The two complemented each other really well and made a mediocre film enjoyable. Sorry Madhuri, the men stole the show here.

Exciting News: Not only have Salman and Shah Rukh become friends again, their ever-arguing fans on Twitter will be making peace on Friendship Day (02 August). The actors’ fan clubs have reportedly organised a cyber meet to put an end to the unnecessary enmity. Both Bhai and King Khan have given their consent for this and it looks like our timelines will then be full of love (yay!).
