Does Tamasha Look Familiar?

Is it just us or does the first look of Tamasha evoke a bit of a “this again!” reaction? Now, please don’t get us wrong. The pictures are absolutely gorgeous and Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are looking really good as Ved and Tara. What we mean is that the duo seems to playing roles that they’ve already played, and while this does not make us doubt the genius of Imtiaz Ali, it dampens our spirits a little.

Think we’re being unnecessarily mean? Let us make our case by giving you some seen-before moments that seem to be glaring at us in Tamasha (and we’re not basing this on pictures alone):

What Ranbir is Doing

If reports are to be believed, Ved (Ranbir) is a free-spirited young man who likes to live the life of a nomad and spreads cheer everywhere he goes. Like Bachna Ae Haseenon? Or maybe like Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani? No? How about Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani?

What Deepika is Doing

We’ve been told that Ved bumps into Tara (Deepika) while he’s just going around being himself. We all know what happens after that, right? Love, of course! Doesn’t Ranbir always “bump” into Deepika in a film when he’s just being himself? And then he falls in love, and then there’s emotional conflict and then the lady becomes a stabilising factor in his life. Please don’t let this be true here!

The Storyline

While the storyline looks very predictable, Imtiaz Ali is not your run-of-the-mill filmmaker and has always surprised us with his stories. Let’s hope Tamasha surprises us too. In fact, with Ranbir and Deepika, we want to be surprised!
