Exclusive: For the first time, Govinda opens up on the much-talked about fallout with one-time ‘best friend’ David Dhawan

Has Bollywood’s Jodi. No 1 gone kaput? We are talking about Govinda and David Dhawan who delivered one musical comedy hit after another in the 1990s.

The entertainers last joined hands in 2007 for Partner which changed the game for Chi Chi. Latest grapevine is that all is not well on the Govinda and DD front. Whispers have it that they have parted ways in their respective careers and that’s a major reason why they didn’t unite to make a film in a long time.

BC has learnt that things are not the same between Govinda and David as they used to be in their heyday. David has taken a backseat because of his health issues and his two sons – Varun and Rohit Dhawan – are doing well in their respective careers. On the other hand, Chi Chi is focussed on making his own career work and already has two big banner films releasing this month, YRF’s Kill Dil and Saif Ali Khan’s Happy Ending.

In an exclusive chat with BC, Govinda said that he’s “surprised who writes such things because we haven’t met for years.” He laughs out loud as he says this: “But good thing is that people don’t know what the problem actually is.” Chi Chi is happy for David’s children doing well. “Varun and Rohit have started working and are doing good in their careers. Maybe, I think, David is in his comfort zone. He’s worked very hard for a long time. Perhaps, he’ll be taking it a little easy and wouldn’t want to concentrate on anything else other than his kids.”

He goes on, “There’s nothing personal against him. I heard David is not keeping well. Three of my financers met him to discuss some project but David refused. He didn’t treat them properly. But let it be. Sometimes, keeping away is good and better than dushmani (enmity) and jhhagda (war).”

We just hope Chi Chi and David will bury the hatchet and patch up sooner than later. Old friendships don’t die out so easily, after all.
