We let the fans decide who among these legends has the biggest following

Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal, Pawan Kalyan, Ajith, Vijay are all mammoth stars down South. It’s not hard to say that South is crazy about their movies and their stars. Unlike their Bollywood counterparts, the fan following for South stars is really HUGE to the point of absurdity. They are elevated to God-like statuses, with even temples being built in their names! The release of each film of theirs is celebrated like a huge festival, and the crowds they attract whenever they visit any public function needs to be seen to be believed.

So risking our lives for the brutal fan onslaught that is to be expected, we let you decide who among the below Gods has the biggest number of devotees…

Rajinikanth: Enough have been said about the legend, who can do basically do “anything”, if you go by what his fans and his directors has to say. The mere mention of his name can send his die-hard fans into a frenzy. Baasha, Padayappa, Sivaji, Enthiran…all have made record-breaking collections. Though his last couple of movies have done lukewarm business at the BO, I am sure a monster hit is just round the corner!

Rajnikanth

Kamal Haasan: The Ulaganayagan is a powerhouse of talent. He can do anything – he act, he can sing, he is a trained dancer, he writes and directs; he is not just a jack, he is a master of all trades! Winner of four national awards and also the recipient of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, he is also known for changing looks with each film, with Dasavathaaram having ten different get-ups! With Vishwaroopam 2 and Uttama Villain set to release soon, it will be a double bonanza for his fans!

Mammootty:
The actor who never ages, Mammootty seems to growing younger as each year passes by. Even in the presence with his son, Dulqer Salman, now a mainstream actor himself, Mammootty just looks like his elder brother. His performances in Ponthan Mada, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Vidheyan and the recent Varsham have endeared him to the family audiences. He is also adept in mass entertainers like Rajamanikyam, Inspector Balram, Mayavi, The King etc. Also the winner of three National awards and as well as having been conferred the Padma Shri.

Mohanlal
: His fans have dubbed him the Complete Actor, and they cannot be blamed for calling him so. He excels in any genre he is in – be it comedy, action or drama. Many of his films are evergreen classics like Manichitratazhu, Kilukkam, Chithram, Kireedom etc. He has won the National Award for the Best Actor twice, as well as the Padma Shri. He is also the first and only actor to be given the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army of India.

Mohanlal

Ajith:
Dubbed Thala by his enormous band of followers, Ajith is style personified. Who else can sport the salt-n-pepper look better than him? He began his journey as an actor with romantic flicks and then moved on to hard-hitting dramas and stylish actioners. He has also taken on Rajinikanth’s role in the reboot of the classic hit, Billa, and passed out with flying colours. He has won tremendous acclaim for his roles in Valarau, Villain, Pavithra, Yennai Arindhaal etc.

Vijay: Illayathalapathy, as he is popularly known as, Vijay is an excellent dancer and after Rajinikanth, he is the best in throwing punchlines. Like Ajith, he also entered films through romantic roles, before moving on to mass roles. He has won the box office over with his films like Khushi, Thupakki, Pokkiri, Vettaikaaran and Kaththi.  His next is a big-budget fantasy flick, co-starring Sridevi.

Vijay

Puneeth Rajkumar:  The son of the legendary actor, Rajkumar, Puneeth is a big star himself in the Kannada film industry. He started off as a child artiste and has even won a National Award for his role in Bettada Hoovu. As an adult, he hold the record for having 16 films that ran for more than 100 days! His latest film, Power, also had a powerful hold over the public. Besides, he is also a very good singer.

Mahesh Babu: Even as he nears the age of 40, Mahesh Babu still looks like a collegian! But his chocolate boy looks have never stopped him from taking on hardcore masala stuff. He has excelled in both romantic stuff as well as heavy dialogue-baazi! His blockbusters include Naani, the original Pokkiri, Businessman, Dookudu etc. His good looks had earned him a place in India’s Most Desirable men a few times. and he is also the face of Thumbs Up’s Toofani campaign.

Pawan Kalyan: Chiranjeevi has almost retired from films (otherwise he would have definitely made it here!), but his younger brother is carrying on his superhit legacy. The star of many blockbusters like Gabbar Singh, Badri and Jalsa, Pawan Kalyan is set on to become a bigger star than his elder brother. His film, Attarintiki Daredi, is the highest grossing Telugu film of all time. Recently, he has joined politics and has re-enacted Akshay Kumar’s Lord Krishna role from OMG- Oh My God in its remake, Gopala Gopala!

Ravi Teja: His nickname is Mass Maharaja, so you know popular he must be among the Telugu audience. His career growth is an inspirational story in itself. He began off small with supporting roles, like in Chiranjeevi-starrer Aaj Ka Gundaraj. He then went on to work as an AD for a few years, before Lady luck smiled upon him and he soon became the leading actor. His ‘one-amongst-us’ looks and immaculate sense of humour endeared him to the public, and he began to deliver blockbusters back to back. His last film, Power, has also been a massive success.
