Deepika Padukone is fast becoming Bollywood’s poster child for women empowerment. It started with the lady taking on a leading media house for publishing unflattering pictures of her and she has been adding one bold feather after another in her cap. Deepika is once again ruling the Internet with My Choice, a short film directed by Homi Adajania. The two-and-a-half minutes long film has been backed by Vogue and is a part of their Vogue Empower campaign.
The premise of My Choice is simple – my body, my mind, my choice. The idea is to let women decide what they want to be and not typecast or judge them. A woman has the right to be comfortable in her own skin and her body size, choice of clothes and sexual orientation cannot be dictated.
Deepika’s striking monologue has been superimposed on a black-and-white montage of 99 different women. These are women from all walks of life, representing different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. The thought provoking monologue is Kersi Khambatta’s creation. May we please point out how perfect Deepika’s deep-bass voice sounds? We’re in love!
The short film is beautiful in every way and in addition to Deepika, you will probably recognize Nimrat Kaur, Anupama Chopra and Adhuna Akhtar. If you haven’t watched the video yet, please do so right away!
