From Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi to NH10, Anushka Has Been A Trendsetter

She’s never been about fashion and style. We only meant that Anushka Sharma never saw herself or positioned herself as an outright diva who knew her Loubs from her Choos. She was always casually dressed and rightfully so, because in a way – she was not a clotheshorse nor a fashion activity a la Sonam. She was, errr….herself! But her movies, they’re a different tune altogether. Though, there was no big hullabaloo about her looks – young girls liked what they saw on Anushka. They copied her kurtis, her lipstick shade and her easy breezy style. If only Anushka knew…how she inspired us!

As Anushka readies herself for yet another blockbuster (we hear it’s amazing already!) called NH10, we decided to remind her, and us, of all those style moments that made her so endearing. We got you 6 decidedly good style ideas that she gave small-town girls.

Dupattas Paired With Jeans in Band Baaja Baraat

Band-Baaja-Baraat

It’s not a new trend, but Anushka played with it and gave it a new form, a new purpose. She used dupattas from Indian wear on a tee/kurti paired with her usual denims. Simple as that! And that’s how innovative small towns girls get and Anushka showcased that look better! Her scarves got more colourful and her entire identity in the movie lived through this tiny trend. We loved it – because it was easy to wear and fun.

Patiala Love in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Rab-Ne-Bana-Di-Jodi

Patialas have been a staple in punjabi households for many years. But Anushka really made us crave for them again. Tall and lean with so much fabric to play with – patialas are slowly back in style! They’re so versatile and so much fun and Anushka made sure she exploited their middle-class stature to the T. Same goes for the phulkari chunnis she wore in the film . So interesting to see that craft see the light of the day in Bollywood.

The Long Ethnic Skirts in Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola

Ethnic skirts needed a day out in the sun, and lo, Anushka gave them one. Her look in the movie Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola was an interesting one. She wore a completely new idea – a kind of fusion clothing that really was reading out like the work of an artist. She teamed beautiful ethnic skirts with flirty tops, ethnic blouses and even a fringe poncho. We loved that look, complete with that fake tattoo on her back.

The Boy Cut in PK

PK

It was a risk that no actress could have taken – not the movie you dummy, the haircut! Anushka Sharma gave Bollywood a heroine who knew her life and her personal style and oh, she also made sure we loved it to bits. That’s the thing about Anushka, there’s no noise around her risks and some really make us rethink the ideal Bollywood heroine. The fuss-free boy haircut is just the thing you need to experiment with this summer!

The Short Shorts in Jab Tak Hai Jaan

You’ll never forget this image – Anushka dancing a jig on a flower-filled shikara in nothing but tiny shorts and a tank top paired with strappy flats. Ah, that was a fun look. And this summer, it is just the thing you need to look cute and sexy at the same time. That look in the movie introduced to us an easy-going fashionista who keeps her character close to her personal style. Those short shorts and those long legs really made her look effortless!

The Rocker Chic Look in NH10

The movie didn’t have much to think about in terms of fashion. But that Kanika Kapoor song with an interesting video of Anushka grooving to the beat in a rocker chic look was a good one. The studded straps, the dull tank top, the smoky eye and the boots really did make heads turn. And what’s more? The jewellery did create a new style statement – layering. Lots of rings, leather bracelets and wild hair – the look is born to last forever.
