Deepika Padukone’s short film My Choice, directed by Homi Adajania of Cocktail fame, has been one of the hottest topics of discussion on social media. Backed by the fashion bible Vogue, the video is two-and-a-half minutes long and at the core of it, the message is that of ‘women empowerment’. The film promotes the idea that a woman has the right to make choices in her life and she should not be judged, no matter what she decides to do. ‘My body, my mind, my choice’ is the premise of My Choice.
Ever since its release, the film has received quite a few reactions – some positive, some negative. While the film fraternity has come out in support of My Choice and its content, there are quite a few people who have pointed out that the video is hypocritical in nature.
All social media platforms, particularly Twitter, have been divided into two sections – one that supports and lauds Deepika and Homi’s efforts and one that stresses that the claims made in the video are impractical and maybe even laughable.
We would have expected Deepika to say something about the criticism but the lady, it seems, has decided to stay away from the controversy for now. Instead, Homi has come out and lashed at the haters. He tagged all the attackers “internet trolls hankering for attention” and stressed that only those who have not understood the context are criticizing My Choice. He went on to say that we all live in a democracy and everyone’s entitled to their opinion.
Okay, that makes sense. We hear you, Homi!
