Some got it right, some just might. We give you 8 such fashion lessons that the stars gave us benevolently this year at the first awards of the year, the Screen Awards 2015.
How to wear SILK?
DO: Wear it well-fitted like Kirti Sanon
Purple might just be the colour that will pop the red carpet and Kirti Sanon knew better. She made sure the silk was fitted to her perfect body and kept a close watch on the accessories flaunting her look with just a pair of earrings. It was grand, it was good and among many things, the Carmen Marc Valvo peplum red carpet dress made sure Kirti stole all the shine at the awards.
DON’T: Wear it unruly like Huma Quereshi
In a scarlet cocktail gown that was held together with reams and reams of fabric, Huma made quite an appearance at the Screen Awards. The Amit GT gown made her look bigger than she is but the cutesy little Butterfly Dior bag, did manage to sit on the favourable side of style. The peplum attachment does not create a new silhouette altogether and her boring up-do just adds up to a no-no.
How To Wear RED CARPET GOWNS?
DO: Wear it in soft waves like Malaika Arora
Trust Malaika to make sure she stunned the onlookers with nothing but a soft nude hue on the red carpet. The gown she wore was a Rami Al Ali and the jewellery with all their green sheen were Emeralds from Farah Khan jewellery. What we loved about this look was the simplicity, the sexiness and the vibe that screams “I am worth it”.
DON’T: Wear it in a lacy mess like Gauhar Khan
Gauhar Khan has everything going for her – the looks, the popularity and the red carpet. But this time, she wore just too much and revoked her fashion license. The weird copperish orange dress was too fitted, the hem a bit disappointing and made her look way too costume-y. Oh the ruining the great figure!
How to Wear GOLD?
DO: Prime it for the red carpet like Pallavi Sharda
She was down the fashion charts and just woke up one day and decided to be fabulous. That’s why Pallavi gets our vote this time. She wore this beautiful shimmery cut-out dress by Payal Singhal with a great body and stuck to minimal jewellery! We would usually bark at the length but this time, the length just balanced out the cut-outs and added the glam element.
DON’T: Shine Too Much like Kajol
The usually meticulous and high-strung fashionista, Kajol – totally missed the point this time in Rocky S. Gold was a good option but the grecian dress was all kinds of confused. It paraded as a cocktail dress and at the same time, it had a very laid-back look to it. The fit wasn’t sitting well and the tie-up belt was awful. The only saving grace was her smile.
How to Wear NET?
DO: Wear it cautiously like Shraddha Kapoor
There seems to be nothing wrong with Shraddha Kapoor these days. She seems to do wrong and this net dress by Marchesa is another winner from the delicate damsel. The nude lining on red net highlights her sexy figure and her beautiful body – we also love the smokey eyes and the side-swept hair, oh so glam and yet oh so simple!
DON’T: Make it look tacky like Amisha Patel
The dress was more than just a disaster – it won the fashion faux pas of the year already. What’s the point really? To wear a fitted dress that had a nude lining with a low-neck that’s so not inviting. Amisha had been a serious fashion offender and it’s time she woke up to reality. The Ramona Narang dress was all kinds of skanky if you ask us. Especially the lining.
How to Wear a COCKTAIL SARI?
DO: Wear it simple like Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone knows just how the sari works. So she manages to make sure she picks a black lehenga sari by Jade and wears it with a traditional high-neck blouse along with her favourite jhumkis. The sari shows off her full figure and keeps her glam quotient high with bold jewellery – now that’s how she climbs up the fashion charts.
DON’T: Try too hard like Kanika Kapoor
Off-shoulder blouses should be banned. Lacy ones that don’t follow trends, more so. Kanika Kapoor keeps it scary in a red and black lace sari this time with an ill-fitted, clearly-not-in-trend blouse. The Isha Rajpal sari is designed for confusion the real highlight of the sari is not found after repeated searching. Is it satin, is it lace? We don’t know. But the dated hair and the tacky blouse didn’t further it’s cause.
How to Wear SEQUINS?
DO: Wear them in a single colour and fabulous fit like Lisa Haydon
The Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna cocktail gown in a single grey colour fitted Lisa Haydon like a dream. We loved the sleek hair, the hip side slit and the nude lips and she way she wore those Gucci sandals with an attitude. Lisa knows her body, flaunts it well and keeps it fresh…every.single.time.
DON’T: Wear them confused and crazy like Manasvi Mamgai
She’s new and she’s hot but we’ll never know why she chose this confusing outfit. Manasvi Mamgai has a killer body to boot but her sense of style seems to be on a downward spiral. The fact that her sexy Gaviin Miguel dress comes with too many sequins, too many colours and a striped back makes us cringe. A big no!
How to Wear PASTELS?
DO: Wear it structured and simple like Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka sure knows her way around the red carpet these days. Her neatly structured and primped Gauri & Nainika dress in a neat blush-yet-salmon coloured dress is just right for the night because it came with exquisite tailoring and a wonderful finish. That girl can do no wrong!
DON’T: Wear it pasty like Evelyn Sharma
Evelyn Sharma has never done justice to the red carpet, just like she doesn’t do much in her movies. Her blush-coloured lace mess is not just insipid but also lacks in the glam quotient. It’s one thing to be delicate, another to be wasted and this lacy Rocky S gown is no winner. Her hair was just okay and her accessories lacked coherence. No luck this time Evelyn.
How To Wear BLACK?
DO: Wear it unconventional like Jacqueline Fernandez
Black is a predictable choice at the awards but Jacky does steer away from the traditional in more ways than one. Her Giorgio Armani dress with an origami bust and velvet skirt is unique and that’s why it gets the vote. Her choice of hair and makeup is subtle and she chose no jewellery so the entire attention goes to the dress. WIN-WIN!
DON’T: Wear it traditional and boring like Alia Bhatt
Yawn is the word that comes to the mind when you see Alia’s style at the Screen awards. The sweet little lady spoilt her chances at the style game this time with an insipid dress by Prabal Gurung. The bust is simple and there’s a slit as well but there is nothing here to write about. The hair and accessories stayed neutral too.
