Top 5 Bollywood films shot in Kashmir

Somebody said, if there’s paradise on earth, it has to be Kashmir. And, rightly so. The Valley has fascinated tourists and holidaymakers and at the same time, fired the creative energies of Bollywood filmmakers. The trend of Kashmir as shooting location goes way back to the 60s – when Shammi Kapoor hollered ‘Yahoo’ goofily sliding down a snow-crusted Valley. In summer, Kashmir is resplendent with greenery. In winter, its snow-capped mountains turn it in a white heaven. Any time is a good time for Kashmir.

Despite the military tensions, there’s still plenty of peace, beauty and serenity in Kashmir that attracts the B-town. Some of our best films are shot in the Himalayan kingdom.

Gripped by Kashmir fever, thanks to Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming Haider, we list our top 5 films shot in the Valley.

The Vidhu Vinod Chopra film was almost entirely shot in his hometown Kashimir, with Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta playing the lead. The scenery is breathtaking, especially in the song Chupke se sun where Preity describes the beauty of Kashmir to Hrithik as they enjoy a shikara ride over a serene Dal lake. Hrithik and Preity came back for more – in Farhan Akhtar’s 2004 Lakshya. This time, Hrithik returned as an army captain in Kashmir.
