Music Director: Kailash Kher
Playback Singer: Rekha Bhardwaj
Music Company: Zee music
When you have Kailash Kher as the music director of a film, one is ought to look forward to some soulful and soothing numbers and that’s exactly what Desi Kattey has to offer us. There are seven songs in the soundtrack, including ‘Tak Dhoom’ by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Kailash Kher, ‘Albeliya’ by Shreya Ghoshal, ‘Bas Tum Ho’ by Sreekant Krishnamurthy and Akriti Kakkar, ‘Daagh De’ by Kailash Kher and M. M. Manasi, ‘Patnewaali’ (Movie version) by Kailash Kher and Rekha Bhardwaj, ‘Patnewaali’ (Album version) by Hard Kaur, Rekha Bhardwaj and ‘Patnewaali’ (DJ Mix) by Hard Kaur, Rekha Bhardwaj.
Tak Dhoom
Rahat Fateh Ali proves yet again why he is one of the most sought after singers from Pakistan. The Sufi number is simply par excellent in all departments, beautifully crooned in the soulful voice of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and wonderfully supported by Kailash Kher. Tak Dhoom speaks about friendship and we bet, the track will flash in parts throughout the film. There is a desi flavor maintained throughout.
Albeliya
A soft romantic ditty, where the female lead sings for her man expressing her love for him, has nice beats, soothing guitaring, lovely harmonica and while the song is not the chart buster kinds, it sure is heart touching. Albeliya is a very soulful number which is pure musical delight to hear.
Bas Tum Ho
This one’s a treat to music lovers, an out-and-out winner, with singers Akriti Kakkar and Sreekant Krishnamurthy spinning magic with their voices. A very soulful Sufi number which is pure musical delight to hear. The tune gradually changes pace as more instruments join in.
Daagh De
Next is a theme song with Kailash Kher taking full charge of the mike. This ones a situational track that has an ordinary beginning but as it progresses, it leaves an impactful impression on the listener. Daagh De is more of a visual treat with Suniel Shetty training Jay Bhanushali to reach his goal. Once all the events fall in place, Daagh De becomes good fun. All you have to do is just soak in the words and feel the vibe.
Patnewaali
This one’s a desi item song crooned in the voice of Rekha Bhardwaj, and wethinks, Patnewaali is just another item number added to the long list of Bollywood item songs. Despite featuring the firang babe, Claudia Ciesla as the item girl, it doesn’t really bring in many brownie points for Desi Kattey. And why we didn’t really like the makers idea of adding a massy number in the film is because, this one’s sort of disturbing the entire classy feel of the album. What’s even more disappointing is that Patnewaali has three versions, the second one sung by Kailash Kher and the third by Hard Kaur.
Overall, while Desi Kattey kick started on a very classy note with almost all the songs having a very feel good factor attached to it. Our pick: Albeliya and Bas Tum Ho. Check out the full songs jukebox right here:
Verdict: 3/5
