Raveena Tandon and Unrequited Love. Was it truly that? I’d like to believe so.

Raveena Tandon was like no other heroine. She was beauty, brains, sensuality, sex appeal, talent everything combined together. Like it or not, she was better than any present day actresses, she was like Deepika and Kareena combined with all their best talents of course. She was the reigning Queen of Bollywood but was never for a single moment proud about her achievement.

She was every man’s fantasy. Every man wanted to be with her and all the ladies wanted to be like her. That’s quite an accomplishment, isn’t it? She could be with anyone she wanted and they would treat her like a Queen and pamper her like a princess and love her like she’s the only girl in the world. But this sensual beauty had her heart fluttering at the mere sight of Akshay Kumar. She loved him to bits and everyone thought their relationship was end game.

It’s a known fact that the prerequisite to be Akki’s wife was to be a stay at home mom. How would that be possible for the leading lady? How could a woman on top of her career just quit it for a man she loved? We knew that would never happen and we assumed that she would never kiss her career goodbye for a man. And this was the reason for their breakup. Or we assumed it was so.

But a lesser known fact is Raveena Tandon and Akshay Kumar were secretly engaged and Akshay had promised that they would get married when all of Raveena’s pending projects were complete and sealed. So it was set. Everything was decided, Raveena stopped signing new movies and completed all her movies in a euphoria of getting married and living happily ever after.

So what was the problem? The problem you see, was that, Akshay Kumar was a lying, cheating *insert all sorts of floral expletives*. He was also on top of his career, was flamboyant and also was quite a play boy. The reason why the couple had to get secretly engaged was because of Akshay. He didn’t want to lose his female fans over the news of their engagement (read : he didn’t want other ladies to know that he wasn’t available)

She gave him heart and soul and even kissed her career goodbye. But he could give her the most important basis of a relationship : loyalty.

The last straw was during the shooting of Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi. The couple was sharing screen with Rekha and when rumours of Akshay Kumar’s affair with Rekha started, Raveena decided to end things with him.

Akshay! Cougar much? All attempts of reconciliation failed and Raveena Tandon took an extremely bold step. She went back to her career and that’s when Akshay knew he had lost her forever. Such a shame, they made such an amazing couple.

But then, all good things come to an end. Raveena Tandon enjoyed her stay in the industry and eventually got married to a man who gave her the world both in literal and poetic sense.

Now. Back to question no 1. Was it really an unrequited love? I think it was. If Akshay Kumar really loved her, he would be loyal to her and not humiliate her with rumours of his engagement with other girls and his flings and affairs.
