Bollywood’s special cutting! Three generations in one movie

Remember that movie? Kal aaj aur kal that was released in 1971? I don’t remember the entire movie because it was way before my time. But what do I remember for a fact is that there was something special about the movie. What was it? i couldn’t figure it out and I had to Google the movie. Now what I found was pretty interesting. The movie had three generations in it! From the same family! How cool is that?! The movie had the daddy, daddy’s daddy and of course daddy’s son. In case you are confused, they were, Raj Kapoor, Prithviraj Kapoor (Raj Kapoor’s father) and Randhir Kapoor (Raj Kapoor’s eldest son).

Was Kal Aaj Aur Kal the first movie to have three generation? Nope! It was Awara, way back in 1951. It was the same Kapoor Khandan and the movie featured Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor and Prithviraj Kapoor’s father, Dewan Basheswarnath. Mr Basheswarnath played only a cameo in the movie. He portrayed the character of the judge in the movie and the sweetest part is the ending credits of the movie. The movie gives him credit as Grand Pa! How cute is that?

Remember Mehmood? The hum kale hai toh kya hua dilwale hai guy? Yes, him. Even he directed a movie which brought together three generations. Kunwara Baap also starred Mehmood’s son Mikki, who actually had polio and Mehmood’s father who played the role of Mumtaz Ali’s alcoholic father.

Only very few movies in Bollywood have all three generations in them and one again, Khader Khan is going to rereate this magic by producing a movie, In Your Arms. The movie will star Khader Khan, his sons Sarfaraz and Shah Nawaz Ali and Sarfaraz’s son and Khader Khan’s grandson, Hamzaa. Can’t wait for the movie!
