Makers of War Chod Na Yaar have big dreams

South Indians have always shined in Bollywood, whether they’re actors or directors. Despite the language barriers, there have been many South Indians who made it big in B-Town. Latest entrant to that list is the producer Shrikant Bhasi.

Shrikant Bhasi is the chairman of Carnival Group, which also has a production house called AOPL Entertainment Pvt Ltd. This AOPL Entertainment, has produced many hit Malayalam movies like Violin, Second and Matinee. Their first foray into Bollywood is with the war-comedy War Chod Na Yaar. This movie is India’s first war-comedy and it stars Javed Jaffrey, Sharman Joshi and Soha Ali Khan.

Shrikant Bhasi says, “We decided to first make Malayalam films to understand the technical aspects. We’re now ready for Bollywood, which is a much bigger industry.” When asked as to why a war comedy, he explains, “We wanted to make a patriotic film with good content and a strong message.”

Besides movies, the group which is also into things like food courts, multiplexes, equipment rentals as well as music labels, is planning on launching 200 screens all over India soon.

He also added saying that his production house encourages new talent. Maybe that is the reason why four of the five films produced under AOPL banner have new directors and actors. “We launched Dulquer Salmaan, son of legendary actor Mammootty, in the South. We want to encourage young talent in Bollywood too,” he enthuses. Reminiscing his first meeting with the director of War Chod Na Yaar Faraz Haider, the producer says, “When I first saw him, I wondered if this little guy would be able make a movie on such a strong subject. But Haider is fantastic.”
