Is Star Plus trying to remake Grey’s Anatomy in India?

After Colors bought the rights of 24 – the international series starring Kiefer Sutherland to remake in India, most other channels have been feeling left out

Star Plus is all set to start a new TV show tentatively titled Hospital. The channel has earlier telecast medical dramas like Sanjivani and Dill Mill Gaye. However these stories had very little to do with medicine and more to do with love stories between the doctors.

Wethinks the channel is feeling the heat from Colors, which is remaking 24 the Indian version of the international series with actors like Anil Kapoor, Tisca Chopa and Shabana Azmi. Well when you speak of medical dramas the first name that pops into our head is Shonda Rhimes’ Grey’s Anatomy starring Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh and Patrick Dempsey. So does that mean Star Plus is buying the rights for the international medical drama? Much as we want them to, there is no such plan in the process yet.

According to sources, the new show Hospital will be very similar to Sanjivani – bleh! The makers have already begun roping in actors like Veebha Anand and Shritama Mukherjee for pivotal roles. The show will be a weekly soap.

Let’s hope this one tells us more about medicine and doctors without drifting into a melodramatic love saga.
