Maharashtra Govt changes time slot for Marathi pictures

Earlier we had reported that the Maharashtra government led by Cultural Affairs Minister Vinod Tawde had ruled that the 6 PM prime time slot at all multiplexes within the state would be reserved for the screening of Marathi films. However this decision was met by both joy and a certain amount of skepticism. Now we hear that adopting a middle path after much deliberation the government has decided to redefine the said slot into three.

According to the latest decision by the government the prime time would now be between 12 (noon) and 9 pm, with a mandatory stipulation that multiplexes were to screen at least 124 shows of Marathi films in a year in this slot.

This decision comes after Tawde conducted a meeting with the multiplex representatives and Marathi film producers. However, the option to choose any one slot from the three (i.e. 13-3, 3-6, 6-9) to screen Marathi films would lie with the film's respective producers. Apart from this since the 6-9 Pm slot would still be a prime time position for films a four member panel consisting of two representatives from the Marathi film producers and two members from the multiplexes has been set up to tackle any dispute that may arise.
