Ajay Devgn might not have looked like your typical 90s hero, and some wrote him off even before his first film came out (yes, all because of the looks). For Ajay, however, it barely took a little over a minute to shut everyone up. The moment we saw him in the iconic ‘standing-on-two-bikes-in-style’ scene in Phool Aur Kante, we knew that Ajay is a star.
Today is Ajay’s 46th birthday and he is just as charming as he was back when he was 22. Actually, scratch that. He is only getting better with age. We wish the Singham star a very happy birthday and to celebrate the day BC-style, we bring you some lesser known facts about him.
He Wasn’t Always ‘Ajay’
Ajay was born as Vishal Veeru Devgan. For reasons unknown, he later changed his name to ‘Ajay’ and dropped the ‘a’ from his surname. Most people still spell his surname as ‘Devgan’ and as far as we know, he hasn’t thrown a tantrum about it yet.
Kajol Wasn’t His Original Lady Love
That’s right. We know that it is hard to believe this bit but it’s true – before Kajol stepped into the picture, Ajay was very much in love with Karisma Kapoor. The two were reportedly going super strong when the actor turned his attention to RaveenaTandon. As soon as Ajay met Kajol though, his days of jumping from one relationship to another were over. Today, Ajay are Kajol are one of Bollywood’s most loved and very-much-in-love couples.
Ajay Turned Down Some Interesting Roles
Today, Devgn is one of B-Town’s most successful actors and his film choices have been lauded by many. However, back when he was young, Ajay made mistakes like everyone else. He was the first choice for Salman Khan’s role in Karan Arjun and was also offered Shah Rukh Khan’s role in Darr. For reasons best know to him, the birthday boy said no to both the ventures.
His Real-Life And Reel-Life Personas Are Very Different
We see Ajay as this dark and intense man on-screen and assume that he is an introvert in real life, no? Even his comedy has a sense of brooding to it. In reality, however, the actor is one of Bollywood’s biggest pranksters and loves to play practical jokes on his co-stars. On the sets of Son of Sardaar, he reportedly fed the cast and crew red chilli powder in the name of gaajar ka halwa… and this is just one of his pranks, and a very mild one compared to his regular shenanigans.
He Didn’t Debut With Phool Aur Kaante
When asked about Ajay Devgn’s debut, most of us would say PhoolAurKaante, which is true in a way. However, he actually debuted in the 1985 Mithun Chakraborty-PadminiKolhapure starrer Pyari Behna. He played the role of young Mithun and was really good too!
We’re going now but we’ll just leave you with this amazing scene here. How many actors can boast of such a splendid entry? Fewer than a handful, we can tell you that!
