Yuvan Shankar Raja: My father, Ilaiyaraaja, was neutral about my conversion to Islam

The ace music director opens up about his much talked about embracing of Islam and third marriage

Meet Abdul Haliq, Kollywood’s famous music composer. Who, you ask? I am talking about none other than Yuvan Shankar Raja, who is making headlines with his recent conversion to Islam. Married for the third time, Yuvan has caught the fancy of media as he opened up about his embracing of Islam.

When asked by a leading daily if he would be referred to as Abdul in film credits, Yuvan said,” I have no plans to change ‘Yuvan Shankar Raja’ in the credit roll of films because many feel it’s a brand and cannot be changed. Also, people won’t be able to relate to my new name. But when I go to my wife’s place, people call me ‘Abdul’ and I have got used to it now.”

Everyone was curious to know how musical maestro Ilaiyaraaja will react to his son’s conversion to Islam. Though the veteran musician has not voiced his views, Yuvan, while speaking to a leading daily said,”My father was neutral towards my decision to convert to Islam and my third marriage. He couldn’t attend my wedding owing to the short notice and his work commitments. We were welcomed with open arms when I returned home after marriage.”

Looks like the music director is all set to rock the industry after finding spiritual solace in Islam. And now that we hear that all is well between father-son duo, I hope they come together for a film very soon.
