The wait is finally over. The very cute trailer of Amitabh Bachchan (Baba), Deepika Padukone (Piku) and Irrfan Khan (Rana Chaudhary) starrer Piku is now out and we’re loving every bit of it. The promo is barely two-and-a-half minutes long but it is enough for us to know that Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film is a definite winner.
At the core of all the Bengali craziness in Piku is a father-daughter story and we are also given glimpses into a potential love relationship between Deepika and Irrfan. The film derives its title from Pikoo’s Diary, a short film by Satyajit Ray.
Here are some things that the trailer reveals about Piku, which is slated to release on 8 May, 2015.
Piku And Her Baba’s Relationship
Piku’s relationship with her father is very typical in the sense that while she obviously loves him to bits, she gets frustrated with his constant need for attention. There’s no mention of a mother so we’re assuming that Baba only has Piku to turn to, and while she’s alright with it most times, she gets irritated too. We see her getting upset when Baba sends are an unnecessarily detailed health-related message when Piku is at work.
Baba Has A Peculiar Personality
We got a glimpse of Baba’s quirky personality in the teaser and it has been revealed further in the trailer. He is a typical Bengali man and speaks heavily accented Hindi. He gets into arguments at the drop of a hat, seems to be obsessed with his bodily functions and is usually as stubborn as a child. We think that he’s a bit of a hypochondriac too.
The Road Trip
Baba wants to travel from Delhi to Kolkata, and for some reason, he wants to travel by road. When no taxi driver agrees (maybe because they know how difficult Baba can be), Piku and Rana decide to take turns driving and set out on the journey. Baba’s caretaker is also accompanying them. While Piku knows her father and is therefore not surprised by his antics, Rana seems to be both amused and bemused.
Piku Is The Quintessential Doting Daughter
Piku obviously loves Baba and is willing to go to any lengths to ensure that he is taken care of. She might get frustrated at times but that’s how a conventional parent-child relationship usually is. Although Piku’s profession hasn’t been revealed, she seems to be in a busy job and good at what she does. That doesn’t stop her from being a good daughter. She cooks, cleans and put her dad’s anxieties to rest, even when she knows that they are irrational.
A Difficult Romance
There seems to be some love between Piku and Rana but we’re not sure if a full-fledged romance is ever going to happen. Yes, you guessed it, because of Baba. Piku makes it very clear that anyone who marries her has to “adopt” her dad because she would never leave him behind. Rana, however, isn’t very keen and prefers to stay away.
