After being hailed as demi-gods and larger than life, it is truly humbling to see stars battle the same diseases as the rest of the common man. Sonam Kapoor was recently diagnosed with swine flu (H1N1) and there is a fair chance that Salman Khan might have contacted it, too. We’re praying for their speedy recovery, while we do that, go ahead and read a few other stars that have actually battled serious illnesses.

Now many people won’t term depression as an illness, but it should definitely be included in the list. 350 million people across the world are currently suffering from this disease but India refused to discuss it until Deepika Padukone opened about her battle with it. Deepika spoke about battling the disease through her most lucrative phase while being in a stable relationship and filming Happy New Year. Yesteryear stars like Guru Dutt, Dharmendra and Meena Kumari also suffered from depression. Numerous articles and confessions later, people are at least talking about this and spreading awareness.

Lisa chronicled her tough journey through a blog, while Manisha spoke about her battle in numerous interview. Manisha is now cancer free while Lisa is in remission. Both these gorgeous ladies are an inspiration on how to battle a crippling disease with positivity and hope. Anurag Basu and Yuvraj Singh have also battled cancer and are now cancer free.

Aishwarya Rai Battled TB

In 2010, Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog about ‘the rich man’s TB,’ referring to how this was often called the poor man’s disease which wasn’t true. Aishwarya had contacted stomach TB which was the reason she couldn’t get pregnant. Safe to say that she was cured and obviously had Aaradhya.
