Shashi Kapoor honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Rishi Kapoor cheers for his uncle on Twitter


This is the third Phalke award conferred to an actor from the Kapoor family…


Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor, who has given us memorable films like Deewar, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Trishul and Kabhi Kabhie, will be conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2014, as announced on Monday. The 77-year old actor is the 46th winner, honoured by the Government for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.


Nephew Rishi Kapoor instantly took to Twitter to confirm the news and wrote: “Yessssssss! Shashi Kapoor to get the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award for contribution to Indian Cinema. Well deserved uncle. God Bless,”



However, this is the third time Phalke award has been honoured to the Kapoors. Prithviraj Kapoor was the first one to get credited with the coveted title in the year 1971 whereas Raj Kapoor backed the prestigious honour in 1987. Sharing pride, Ranbir Kapoor’s father further added, “Third Padma Bhushan and third Phalke award in the family.Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor being the other recipients.”



Later, Rishi also shared a little humour to this celebrated moment by retweeting a joke that said, “@chintskap Shashi Kapoor to Amitabh : Mere paas ma or dada saheb phalke award h..”
