Rudhramadevi trailer: Anushka Shetty, Allu Arujun’s historical film makes Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan look like Avatar

After waiting for so long, I can’t believe this is what I get in the name of period film

A period film is not an easy film to make. With the amount of time and money spent to make the sets, the costumes and the look of the film authentic, historical films usually tend to be made on a very high budget. Usually Indian filmmakers try to steer clear of this genre, and after watching Anushka Shetty-Allu Arjun-Rana Daggubati’s Rudhramadevi trailer, I know why! Touted to be one of the most awaited films of the year, and often compared with SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali, Rudhramadevi seems like an assault on my visual senses.

I grew up watching films like Troy, 300 and Asoka, and what I saw in Rudhramadevi trailer is outright laughable. You might be wondering what’s so bad about the film – is it the plot or dialogues or costumes or performances from the actors? No, Rudhramadevi seems to be alright in these aspects, but what brings it down is it’s pathetic animation work, which forces me to not take the film seriously. The CGI work might have been acceptable if Rudhramadevi was an animated flick, but for a film with real life actors and stunning costumes, the CGI work used to create the sets, the battle scenes, the arena sequences and the aerial shots is EXTREMELY shoddy.

I mean the effects used to create the atmosphere is so bad, that it makes Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan, which was panned for it’s inconsistent CGI work, look like James Cameroon’s Avatar. Infact, I would prefer to watch arrows colliding and turning into ashes in Mahabharat, which was aired on Doordarshan in the 90′s, than watching the badly crafted CGI work of Rudhramadevi.

For a film made on the great queen from Kakateeya dynasty, Rudhramadevi is a huge let down, making me wonder, why take up such a film, if you can’t afford the budget to make it believable. Watch the trailer below and decide for yourself:
