Rani Mukerji NOT shocked by the Nirbhaya gang rape convict Mukesh Singh’s mentality!

The Mardaani actress says that she is not shocked at all by what the Delhi gang-rape culprit and his defence lawyers said in the BBC documentary India’s Daughter…

Rani Mukerji was recently honoured at the Institute of Gender Justice for her contribution to Indian cinema and for throwing light on the sensitive issue of child trafficking in her film Mardaani. In an interview with a leading daily the actress was asked how she felt when she heard about the banned BBC documentary, India’s Daughter, and what the Delhi gang rape convict and defence lawyers said. Rani revealed that she wasn’t at all shocked to hear what the rapist and his lawyers had to say…

Mrs Aditya Chopra said, “I’m sure these men have grown up in families where their own mothers must not have been respected by their fathers. He must not have given her a chance to speak up. So, when these men see young women go out and pursue their dreams, they are stuck in their own concocted beliefs.”

Rani also resents people of such mentality as she thinks that they are the reason why women these days hold themselves back from travelling alone. She says, “Today, people are paranoid, and rightly so. There is so much negativity, and you can’t trust anybody. You don’t know in which nook or corner there may be a frustrated person who feels it’s okay to take advantage of a girl travelling alone.”

But the actress also feels that India has a lot more to offer and it’s good qualities are often not discussed on a global platform. She adds, “When I travel and people talk to me, as an Indian I feel that so many good things about our country don’t get discussed. There is going to be good and bad everywhere.”

Rani feels by doing films like Mardaani she is doing her bit to empower women. She says, “When I met a hero like Kailash Satyarthi (Nobel Peace Prize winner), he told me that my fight looked absolutely real. That is what gives us more courage to fight this battle. That is my real victory.”

More women like the Mardaani actress should rise up and join hands to battle the gender inequalities of the society in whichever way they can!
