The iron lady was completely against the idea of having an item number in her maiden production venture…
Item numbers were a fad in Bollywood. Movie makers generally resort to item songs to grab eyeballs or lure audiences into theatres. But Anushka Sharma decided against having an item number in her latest film NH 10. Even though Anushka shot for the promotional song Chhil Gaye Naina which runs in the end credits, she was against the idea of an item number popping up in the film as she thought it would be jarring to the story.
Ms Sharma was recommended to keep an item song by many who swore by their years of experience in the business of film-making. But the Dil Dhadakne Do actress knew that she would do a giant disservice to the powerful story of NH 10 if she inserted an unnecessary song in the film.
We like how Anushka took a stand against the ridiculous practice of stuffing item numbers in a film just to make it look “sexy” for the viewers. Anushka has always been a believer of good content and she reiterated on various counts that the story is paramount to her.
NH 10 is not just critically acclaimed, it is also getting great reviews from the viewers, who are loving it for its powerful narrative. At the box office too, Anushka’s maiden venture has been a good opener and within five days of its release the film has already made Rs. 17.30 crore at the box office.
So for all those who suggested Anushka to keep an item song right before the climax in NH 10, guess who had the last laugh!
