CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani skips meeting with minister Rajyavardhan Rathore

He might be avoiding the meet for now. But for how long?

Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Pahlaj Nihalani skipped the meeting where minister of state for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and board members discussed the way film certification functions.

“We discussed ideas and suggestions on how film certification process can be improved. Film certification is so robust in itself that no one person can affect it,” Rathore said after the meeting on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, top Bollywood producers, including veteran Ramesh Sippy, Gulzar and Mukesh Bhatt met Rathore to improve the process of movie certification in the wake of recent controversies.

The Hindi film industry was up in arms after Nihalani made 23 Hindi and English “objectionable” words off-limits for filmmakers.

Rathore said the meeting was not about an individual but to ensure that filmmaking was made easier for the industry. The meeting was held following speculation that Nihalani may soon be sacked from his post.
