If there is one film’s release that we are awaiting with bated breath, it’s that of Bombay Velvet. Set in the 1960s Bombay, the films trails the lives of a boxer, Johnny Balraj essayed by Ranbir Kapoor and an aspiring jazz singer, Rosie Noronha essayed by Anushka Sharma. The trailer had us sitting at the edge of our seat and we can’t wait to watch it. What really stood out in the trailer was how the designer and stylist in the film have nailed the 60s look – pat down to Anushka Sharma’s beehive and Karan Johar’s moustache.
Anushka Sharma
Portraying a jazz singer in the 60s, Anushka’s look ranges from fringed and a beehive to double cat eye liners. We absolutely loved those huge retro sunglasses and dark lips. Her shiny glittery costumes are reminiscent of Helen gyrating on those peppy Hindi numbers. We also spotted her wearing a plaid suit, a trend which was started in the 60s when women started working.
Ranbir Kapoor
We’re really not sure about Ranbir Kapoor in curls but we’re digging the angry young man vibe from him. As he is essaying the role of street fighter, he’s seen wearing simple shirts, trousers and roughed up and frayed dirty suits.
Karan Johar
We are just praying that Karan’s acting skills in Bombay Velvet are going to be way better than his terrible debut in DDLJ. We love how suave and conniving Karan looks in the trailer. His natty suits are offset with his villainous moustache (or are we the only ones who think that moustache makes him look menacing?) and cat eye sunglasses. We spotted a polka dotted shirt on Karan in one fleeting scene. Loved the subtle touch by the stylist Niharika Khan and we can’t wait and watch the style from the swinging 60s.
