Box office war: Sidharth Malhotra’s Ek Villain fared better than Varun Dhawan’s Badlapur in the opening weekend!

With Ek Villain, Sid broke his chocolate boy image and with Badlapur Jr Dhawan has done the same. However, the former’s film raked in more money in the opening weekend than the latter’s latest release has…

Varun Dhawan is currently the talk of the town courtesy his film Badlapur which released last Friday and impressed the critics big time. Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the revenge saga has even got cash registers jingling despite the ‘A’ certificate. In three days, the film co-starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi, Yami Gautam, Divya Dutta and Radhika Apte has minted over 24 crore at the box office which is commendable. However, in comparison to Sidharth Malhotra’s Ek Villain, which was again a revenge drama, Badlapur is far behind in the numbers game.

While the Varun starrer has earned over Rs 24 crore in the first three days, Sidharth’s film which released last year in June, had collected Rs 50.70 crore in the same duration. Well, things could have been different for Badlapur had it been a bit more subtle. But then revenge is a dish best served cold and brutal, hai na?

In this race, though Sid is clearly ahead of his Student Of The Year co-star, as an actor David Dhawan’s son has certainly made his point – he is versatile, ready to take risks and is at par with all his contemporaries!
