REVEALED! The Reason Why Varun Dhawan Was Reluctant To Do Badlapur

Varun Dhawan’s rugged new look in Sriram Raghavan’s Badlapur has drawn rave reviews. But not many are aware that Varun was quite reluctant to take up the offer. Reason? So far the Student of The Year discovery has done only commercial films (rom-coms, if you care). And Badlapur is his first major attempt to do something different – just like SOTY co-star Sidharth Malhotra’s angry young man turn in Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain.

For the trivia crazy, Varun was cast for Badlapur after the release of SOTY. He was shooting for Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, a me-too DDLJ and Main Tera Hero, a typical David Dhawan film.

Sriram went by his instinct and approached Varun to play the lead in Badlapur. Sriram explains why he envisioned David Dhawan’s son to play an offbeat and serious character: “Varun has a certain vulnerability and at the same time, he looks like a regular kind of a guy you could connect with.”

He adds, “Actually, Varun wasn’t sure whether he’d be able to play the older guy, a father. But I told him not to worry and just concentrate on the film. Once he got into the groove, there was no looking back. I bet you will love Varun as Raghu in Badlapur.”

We can certainly take Sriram Raghavan’s word for that.
