Though backed by strong performances, the OMG! Oh My God remake lacks creativity
Pawan Kalyan-Daggubati Venkatesh-Shriya Saran starrer Gopala Gopala has hit the screens today. Our reviewer, Subramaniam Harikumar, is presently in the theatre watching the film and here’s what he has to say about it…
The story revolves around a businessman Gopal Rao, played by Venkatesh, an atheist who makes a living by selling idols of Gods to superstitious devotees. His wife, played by Shriya Saran, is a big devotee and never misses a chance to pray for the betterment of her family. When an earthquake destroys his shop and the insurance company refuses to compensate his loss stating that it is an Act of God, Gopal Rao decides to drag God to court. He sends a legal notice to all the Godmen in the nation asking them to repay his losses. This ensues a raging court battle. When the henchmen of phony Godmen played by Mithun Chakraborty try to assault Gopal Rao, Lord Krishna played by Pawan Kalyan comes to his rescue. Will God help Gopal Rao in getting compensation for his losses, unearthing the business of phony Godmen in the nation forms the crux of the story.
Performances from Venkatesh and Shriya Saran is praiseworthy. Venkatesh, seems to be in his element, playing the role of middle class businessman who fights for his family. Pawan Kalyan makes a terrific entry as God just before the interval and entertains us with his antics with the bike. As for the plot, it follows the original flick OMG! Oh My God faithfully, with absolutely no deviations, which might be a turn off for fans who have seen the Akshay Kumar-Paresh Rawal starrer. Will there be any surprises for the viewers in the second half. Lets wait and watch.
