Prakash Jha is known for giving us great political satires like Satyagraha and Rajneeti. But looks like comedy is not his forte. Read on to find out the full film review!
Crazy Cukkad Family is a comedy drama directed by Ritesh Menon and produced by Prakash Jha. The film stars Swanand Kirkire, Shilpa Shukla, Zachary Coffin, Nora Fatehi, Kushal Punjabi Jugnu Ishiqui, and Anushka Sen and will hit theatres tomorrow. I just saw the film and here’s my impression of it…
What is it about?
Crazy Kukkad Family introduces us to a madcap Beri family comprising of four estranged siblings- Pawan (Swananad Kirkire), Archana (Shilpa Shukla), Aman (Kushal Punjabi) and Abhay aka Chotu (Siddharth Sharma). All of them are frustrated strugglers in their own lives with only one common motive- to overthrow their father’s property. But father (Kishordas) is half-dead in his last stage of coma. So how do they get their share of property? Do they kill him? No not that harsh! They try unfolding his will and what blinds them further is what the entire craziness is all about! PS- Property is written on the name of their long-time servant!
What’s hot?
Few scenes were worth the ‘comedy element’, thanks to Swanand and Shilpa. They totally stood out with Shilpa’s ‘aammbarrasing’ english and Swanand’s LOL punches! Ninad Kamat who plays Archana’s husband also put up a great show with his split act of conflicting emotions. And he did it brilliantly. Lastly, it was the message that somehow managed to come out clear from this crazy family. It makes us realize on how most of the times we get so greedy for money that we ignore all our relations and kill some for that matter! We lose our values, morals, emotions and in the end we lose ourselves!
What’s not?
The major drawback is the highly expected plot. You already know what’s going to come in next. 4 siblings- property hungry- fight- climax- realize their mistake- and they lived happily ever after! There’s nothing new to offer. Even the dialogues are not half funny. Debut director Ritesh Menon has struggled to get through and I could clearly see that. In fact, the worst of all was the climax scene which was supposed to be intense but had a slow, romantic music being played at the background. Need I say more? Even the message which is otherwise decent is not elaborated well in the film but sadly, I had to dig and join the dots!
Verdict
Crazy Cukkad Family is definitely not one of the best comedies but of course you could go and watch it once for the sake of strong performances that have miserably drowned in this lame plot!
