We urge the following film actors and actresses to showcase their talent on stage as well, just for the love of it
They are talented, they are successful and they are all good-looking people. Most of the time, it is theatre which becomes a medium for many artistes to bag coveted roles in films, but we wonder how theatre audiences would react when some very talented and famous silver screen actors decide to work on stage. Now, we know they are all busy but we also know that theatre is considered to be the most testing medium for an artiste, and working once in while on stage will not harm anybody, not to mention the pleasure it will bring to thousands of theatre lovers all over. Here’s a list of actors we think should perform live for us…
Huma Qureshi
This Delhi gal knows how to charm her audience, she can play any character with ease and any artiste, filmmaker, theatre person can vouch for Huma Qureshi as a performer. What more can stage want? Not only this, the talented actress has already worked in few theatre productions with Act 1 group. Huma’s acting prowess needs no mention, and with that kind of skills, she should not deprive theatre lovers of a great performance. Are the directors listening?
Richa Chadda
She started as a model and theatre artiste but shifted focus on films after her much-acclaimed performance in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur. And though Richa Chadda appeared in a play called Trivial Disasters last year (with Kalki Koechlin, Cyrus Sahukar and Purab Kohli) after a five-year hiatus, it will be a real treat for the audiences to see her live on stage more often. She has the looks and can keep the audience hooked to her for as much time she’s on stage. She earned immense laurels for her last play performance, not to mention innumerable requests of ‘once more’.
Chitrangada Singh
She rocked the film frat and audiences in her first movie itself. Chitrangada’s performance in Sudhir Mishra’s Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi was counted as one of the best of that year. However, instead of pursuing her acting career she decided to take a break and got married. Her fans were quite excited when she decided to make a comeback few years later. Unfortunately, none of her films could create the kind of magic her debut movie had done for her. Chitrangada should use her talent for plays rather than wasting it on bad movies. She is sensuous, beautiful and a dynamic performer, and we don’t mind a little bit of glamour on stage!
Prateik Babbar
As the son of Smita Patil and Raj Babbar, it would be sacrilegious for Prateik to stay away from theatre. And why not? He was a wonder in his first film itself (Jaane Tu Ya… Jaane Na) and though he has not been very lucky in the choice of films, we all know that he can act. The guy only needs the right break. And what other place to get it than theatre. He has almost everything stage requires — he is good looking, he can act and he can speak well. The best part is he will not have to work on his diction, and can work in vernacular plays as well.
Amitabh Bachchan
He is the Big B of cinema but Amitabh Bachchan has made his presence felt on almost all mediums. Nobody can question his talent and popularity as the brightest star on Bollywood sky. Sr Bachchan also made history with Kaun Banega Crorepati which he has been hosting for years now. Last year, he appeared in a fiction show called Yudh by Anurag Kashyap too. He is heard giving social messages on radio in his baritone voice. Guess, it’s high time that he should perform live on stage, and that too more often. Moreover, it would be a delicacy for audiences to watch someone as famous and loved as him from Bollywood, other than Naseeruddin Shah, perform live on stage.
Vidya Balan
The ‘female Khan’ of Bollywood needs no certificate to prove her acting prowess on screen. Vidya is one of the few actresses in the film industry who can sell a film sans a big name opposite her. She has proved her mettle in all roles. She can be a seductress in one character and can play an innocent youngster in another. Theatre loves actors who like to experiment, and Vidya can breathe life into any character she plays. High time we see her live!
Ayushmann Khurrana
Before he made it big in films (with Vicky Donor), Ayushmann was already a television anchor and singer. Not to mention his skills in theatre as he was active in theatre for five years. He was one of the founding members of theatre groups Aaghaaz and Manchtantra. While he has acted in many street plays in north, it would be a prized catch for Mumbai theatre to see him perform live on stage here. It will be a double treat if he could also sing. Now we know he has his hands full with many movies in his kitty, but once in a while back to stage is not a bad idea. Isn’t it?
Madhuri Dixit
She’s a diva, that too a dancing one. Madhuri broke many hearts when she left Bollywood and India to get settled in the US with her doctor husband. A muse to many, not to mention the famous MF Husain, she stole a billion hearts with her smile and performances in a number of hit Bollywood numbers. Even today there are hardly any actresses in the film industry who can match her dancing talent. And though she is back in movies and TV (as reality show judge), we would love to watch Mads perform live on stage in a musical. Dil To Pagal Hai goes live anyone?
