The moment you hear the word ‘saris’, your mind jumps to certain ideas almost immediately. For us, it’s visions of Kajol in breezy chiffons in little-known towns in Switzerland with a bunch of cows grazing unmindfully in the background. Or Sushmita Sen’s slim waist hidden under a bright-coloured sari moving to an unknown beat in the tropics. Saris have always been catalysts to Bollywood’s titillation antics but for us, they are perfect inspirations for a perfect indian wardrobe modelled by our favourite stars.
This week, we got you 6 saris that changed our wardrobes and our honeymoons in more ways than one. Think chiffons, light-weight georgettes and dreamy satins – simple, sexy and stunning!
1. Powder-Blue sari: Shraddha Kapoor in Aashiqui 2
This is the dream – a boy, lots of rain and a powder blue sari. Shraddha Kapoor wore this beautiful georgette sari with a well-fitted gold sequined blouse. Sexy and smouldering – this one’s a classic if it were ever to get into your closet. Don’t miss: The classic turquoise blue jhumkis she wears in the song.
2. Red Chiffon sari: Sushmita Sen in Main Hoon Na
This is probably the only time teachers were seen as sexy in mainstream hindi films. Sushmita Sen plays the role beautifully and dutifully wears all the chiffons she ever got in all of their multi-coloured beauty. Don’t miss: The files she carries – some come with embroideries that totally match the sari.
3. Silver sari with a bikini blouse: Priyanka Chopra in Dostana
This one created a maelstrom of sorts in the fashion universe. Bikinis + saris = Awesome times infinity. Priyanka Chopra we feel did ample justice to this silver sari with billowing hair and a thumka to match and Desi Girl soon became an anthem for all sexy indian girls around the world. Don’t miss: The bikini blouse that got a 100 hearts racing.
4. Red and Black Sari: Rani Mukherjee in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
Karan Johar films are all about chiffon saris, nubile young women, halter-neck blouses and Bollywood glamour. He makes sure their awesomeness is showcased in it’s splendour in pastel shade cards, well-stitched sexy blouses and minimal jewellery. This red and black number worn by Rani is all things spice and totally nice. Don’t miss: The manicured nails and blow-dried hair.
5. Peach Perfection: Kareena Kapoor in 3 Idiots
Swinging in the rain in peachy chiffons is what bollywood dreams are made of. And in the song Zoobi Doobi, Kareena makes sure she lights up the screen with her super sexy peach sari humming the tune with Aamir Khan. The rain and her perfect figure just make the look work. Don’t miss: Size zero abs!
6. White Chiffon: Kajol in Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham
The pyramids in the background and a song like Suraj Hua Maddham on loop, Kajol stayed resplendent in a beautiful white sari with a matching blouse that shows off her curves and her gumption. Don’t miss: The net sleeves on the blouse that show off her toned arms.
