Suchitra Sen – The Doyen of Bengali cinema

The legendary – and fiercely reclusive – Suchitra Sen suffered a massive heart attack and passed away at the age of 82 at a hospital in Kolkata. Suchitra has been a part of several memorable Hindi films like Devdas and Aandhi. She was the doyen of Bengali cinema. Though she had a huge fan following, she hardly ever made any public appearances.


Nanda – Yesteryears Bollywood Queen

Died: 25 March, 2014


The veteran actress was 75 and passed away due to natural consequences. Nanda has to her credit some of the most memorable performances like Hum Dono, Train and Jab Jab Phool Khile. She made a hit pair with the reigning superstar Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra and Shashi Kapoor.


Zohra Sehgal – The Grand Old Lady of Hindi Cinema

Zohra Sehgal lived till 102 before she succumbed to a cardiac arrest. Her last onscreen performance was of a grandmother in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya in 2007. In 2012, Zohra Sehgal had celebrated her 100th birthday with great enthusiasm.


Sadashiv Amrapurkar – The ‘Maharani’

Popular Marathi actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar passed away at the age of 64 at Kokilaben Ambani hospital in Mumbai. In his illustrious acting career, Sadashiv Amrapurkar played several iconic roles, the most popular one being Maharani in Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak and several other memorable ones like Ardh Satya and Aankhen.


Ravi Chopra – The Chopra Scion

After battling illness for several years, Bollywood’s respected and beloved filmmaker, Ravi Chopra, breathed his last on November 12 at the Breach Candy hospital, Mumbai. Mr Chopra, who died due to lung infection, was 68. He’s known for directing the epic television series, Mahabharat and has directed memorable Bollywood films including Zameer (1975), The Burning Train (1980), Mazdoor (1983), Dahleez (1986), Baghban (2003) and his last film Baabul featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Salman Khan and Rani Mukerji. Ravi was the nephew of Yash Chopra.


Deven Varma – A Generation Remembers its Essential Funny-Man

Veteran actor Deven Varma started his career in the B&W era and played memorable roles in his four decade long career. He passed away on December 2 early morning after succumbing to a heart attack and kidney failure in Pune. The 77-year-old was married to Ashok Kumar’s daughter Rupa Ganguly. Deven has been a part of several memorable films like Angoor, Bemisal, Judaai, Dil To Paagal Hai and Andaz Apna Apna among several others.


Sitara Devi – Kathak legend

Died: 25 November, 2014


Renowned Kathak dancer Sitara Devi died in Mumbai after prolonged illness at the age of 94. The legendary dancer was on ventilator and her condition was serious while she was admitted to Jaslok hospital.
