Lingaa movie review: Is this Rajini flick worth your time? 5 reasons to watch it and 5 reasons to skip it

The Big Day – aka Lingaa release day topped with THE Rajinikanth’s birthday – is finally here. If you haven’t already watched Lingaa first-day first-show, we give you 5 best and 5 not-so-good things about the movie.

Undoubtedly, you can’t deny that Lingaa is riding purely on the Rajini magic and it merits 10 Thumbs Ups only because of Rajini’s presence. Regardless of everything, one thing is for sure – Rajini, being its major USP, will definitely help Lingaa set the cash registers jingling.

For now, read our quick review to know whether Lingaa is vintage Rajini or not.

5 Thumbs Up

The name Rajini is enough. He’s the scene-stealer

Rajni is back and in his best form. He does everything that we love him for – FIGHT, DANCE and ROMANCE (he’s a pro and looks young, even at 64!)

Double entertainment in the price of one

Lingaa has Rajinikanth playing a double role, just like many of his recent movies. He’s a thief on one hand and a landlord from the pre-Independence era on the other.

Romancing not one but two PYTs

Rajini is one lucky guy. He gets Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty who both look ravishing. In upping the glam quotient, they do a good job.

A R Rahman’s highly enjoyable music

Other than Rajini, A R Rahman is the chief attraction of Lingaa. Rahman, who’s been dishing out mediocre stuff off late, produces some foot-tapping numbers for this one.

The Rajini-style action

The movie is gripping. With all the stylised action sequences and good moments here and there, three hours are, in the end, worth your time.

5 Thumbs Down

Linga

Nothing artsy

If you’re expecting something new or artsy, you won’t be getting it. Lingaa is commercial to the core. Not for those looking for a ‘different fare.’

Comedy’s missing

Usually, the comedy tracks of Rajini movies are outstanding. Alas, Lingaa falls short of expectations on the comedy quotient.

One-liner shortage

Rajini flicks are known for their massy dialogue. Wish there were more in Lingaa.

Too mind-bending to stomach

rajinikanth-lingaa

Some of the action sequences are a bit too unrealistic. But with Rajinikanth performing them, who’s complaining?

Editor slept through

Looks like the editor slept through this one. Lingaa could have been shorter and is also marred by a predictable plot.
