Javed Akhtar returns to lyrics writing for Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro

The legendary lyricist makes a comeback after four years

Ashutosh Gowariker, AR Rahman and Javed Akhtar created musical milestones in Lagaan, Swades and Jodhaa-Akbar. They are back together again for Gowariker’s period film Mohenjo-Daro featuring Hrithik Roshan in the lead.

Interestingly, Akhtar will be penning songs after nearly four years. In 2012-13, Akhtar was blacklisted by all major producers because of his long legal and moral tussle over copyrights-royalty issues for writers.

Confirming this ‘historical’ return to poetic form, he says, “It’s true I was unemployed because of my fight with producers over writers’ royalty. During this time I mainly wrote lyrics for my children Farhan and Zoya’s film.”

Besides Mohenjo-Daro, Akhtar has also been signed to write the lyrics for Vipul Shah’s next directorial venture. “Vipul’s film is a very contemporary love story while Ashutosh’s film will take me back to the past. Hopefully, you will get to hear a lot of songs in 2015.”
