Salman Khan, Bollywood’s official Bhai, had a lot of ups – and a few downs – in 2014. On one side, there were massive ups like Kick being a smash, getting ranked number 1 celebrity in India by Forbes, his sister’s wedding and on the other side, there were lows like the Black buck poaching case that keeps clawing back to bite him.
Here’s how Salman Khan spent the year – both, his best and worst moments.
Starts his Year with a Flop
Salman Khan’s first release of 2014, Jai Ho, became one of the highest grossing films of 2014 when it quickly entered the 100 crore club within two weeks of being released. Yet, it was declared a flop – a huge set-back for the Khans. Somebody called it the ‘Rs 126 crore flop!’ Ouch.
Kicks Up a Storm, Quickly Soon After
But Salman bounced back. His second release, Kick, produced and directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, was an official remake of a Telugu film of the same name. The film grossed more than Rs 300 crore and became the second highest grossing Bollywood film in India and the fourth highest grossing Bollywood film worldwide.
Sallu bhai even sang a song in the film.
Time for Some Cameos
While Jai Ho and Kick were his major solo films of 2014, he appeared in cameo roles in a few other films. Most prominent being, a song in the film O Teri.
Hosting Bigg Boss
Salman has been doing shows on the small screen for quite some time now but none of the shows has the drama and entertainment factor that Bigg Boss has. Sallu hosted the 8th season and has emceed the show for the fifth time in a row.
Court Cases Come Back to Haunt Him
The two ghosts of his past came haunting him this year when the Bombay High Court and Supreme Court reopened his hit-and-run case and the Blackbuck poaching case respectively. If convicted, he will be facing prison time.
A Wedding, Riches Galore and the Priceless ‘Hug SRK’ Moment
Salman has had some wonderful moments in 2014. His sister Arpita got married in a lavish ceremony in a luxury hotel in Hyderabad. The wedding was attended by the who’s who and was a point of conversation for weeks thereafter. He ended his feud with Shah Rukh Khan and the two bonded at the wedding, resulting in that now-famous image of the two warring Khans giving a bear hug to Arpita. Further, Forbes India added another feather to his cap when it ranked him as India’s top celebrity in two categories. He ranks first both in terms of revenue and fame. He also became the most Googled Bollywood actor this year.
