Here’s why Balika Vadhu, Uttaran, Sasural Simar Ka should end this year

It has been a trend for the longest time to make 1000 plus episodes and keep a show running as long as the TRP is good, but we’ve had just about enough

BollywoodLife lists five long running daily soaps that should ideally come to end this year ‘coz we don’t want to watch it anymore. And why we say so, well read on to find out.

Balika Vadhu

Started on: July 21, 2008

It was a novel concept and had some of the most talented actors heading the show. The makers held on to the core idea for the longest time, introduced several twists and turns to spice up the numbers and it worked for six long years. But we think it is about time to wrap it up; before they lose the essence of the show completely and lose the plot – which they had several times over the years. Even the actors of the show are abandoning the sinking ship, isn’t that an indication enough?

Saath Nibhana Saathiya

Started on: May 3, 2010

The story of two very different daughter-in-laws has been the public favourite for its melodrama and the story of the underdog. The makers had a tough time bringing up the numbers when Gia Manek left the show, but the leap and introduction of the children again worked wonders. But with Rucha Hasabnis’ exit the story is spiraling downwards faster than we can say ‘go’. The new character – Paridhi (Loveleen Kaur Sasan) and the return of Radha (Bhavini Purohit) seem like a yawn fest. Please shut it down!

Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke

Started on: May 21, 2012

It may have been only two years since the story of Gunjan (Roopal Tyagi) and Rachna’s (Mahima Makwana) warmed its way into people’s hearts, but we think it’s enough now. The storyline is getting repetitive, unimaginative and downright regressive. Maybe it’s time Zee TV tries some new daily soaps to hook the audiences.

Uttaran

Started on: December 1, 2008

The channel came down on the makers to shut the show several times, but the show is still going on much to our dismay. Uttaran began with the tale of two kids from two varied social backgrounds – now that was interesting but what followed was a series of repetitive melodrama that we no longer have the patience to watch.

Sasural Simar Ka

Started on: April 25, 2011

The show recently completed 1000 episodes and that’s a feat they should definitely be proud of. However, that in no way is an indication that Sasural Simar Ka is path breaking or remotely even interesting. The storyline has fluctuated from reality to fantasy to horror and several other genres – need we say more?
