Bizarre TV plots of 2014: Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Sasural Simar Ka, Diya Aur Baati Hum- plots in TV shows that made us go WTF!

In the year gone by, we take a look at TV shows and their plots which were downright bizarre…

Television provides viewers a mode of escapism, where they indulge in some drama, romance and tragedy on a daily basis. But there come moments in television plots which scream mindless and turn out to be a major snooze fest. In the year gone by, we have come across TV shows that have defied logic and chosen to follow their own beliefs to gain public’s attention. We recall bizarre plots of 2014 which made us go WTF:

Diya Aur Baati Hum- The hijack saga

As all of you know, Deepika Singh and Anas Rashid’s show Diya Aur Baati Hum was seen following a hijack plot off late. It so happened that Maya (Gurdeep Kohli), terrorist Rajkumar’s sister, hijacks a plane along with peers Disha and Prema. Why does she do this? To threaten Sandhya and make her let go of Rajkumar or else all passengers including Sandhya’s husband (Sooraj) and mother in law (Bhabho) would be killed. While the plot in itself was too farfetched, what we found ridiculous was the prolonged period it was carried on for. A further vile twist was brought in, with police officer Zakir, wearing Rajumar’s “mask” and posing as him, to trick Maya. WTF? All in all, the recent plot of the show seemed like a cheap rip off of Flight Plan and Face-Off!

Sasural Simar Ka- When a sasural gets haunted

Like TV shows Fear Files and Shhhh…Koi Hai weren’t enough to supposedly send chills down everyone’s spine, Sasural Simar Ka took it all a notch higher and ruined its own game. There was a plot which showcased Simar (Deepika Samson) getting possessed by Sunaina’s soul. Yeah, wannabe Supernatural has entered the building. Like every spirit with a purpose, Sunaina takes over Simar’s body in order to take care of her daughter Sanjana, and husband Vikrant. The cherry on the cake, is when Roli (Avika Gor) learns about Simar’s possession and decides to get rid of the spirit, getting attacked by her instead. Here’s a suggestion Simran and Roli; since you ladies seem to have aced the genre of mindless horror, a big break in B-town isn’t far away, given the venture is being directed by Ram Gopal Verma.

Saath Nibhana Saathiya- The dimwitted Modis

The makers of Saath Nibhana Saathiya seem to believe that the Indian audience will buy whatever is thrown their way. The plot involving Radha’s (Bhavini Purohit) fake pregnancy seems to speak volumes of the same. Radha has told the Modi family that she is pregnant with Jigar’s (Vishal Singh) baby and she has an ulterior motive to make them dance to her tunes. And we mean, literally. So Radha wakes up one night and starts dancing like a maniac to loud music, waking up the family members. She states that the baby in her belly wishes to see the Modis performing. To that the family members react and tell Radha to STFU. Nope, that would have been the logical thing do to. Instead they obliged to Radha’s vile needs and perform dance numbers in the middle of the night! WHAT? Gopi dances to the tunes of Baby Doll and Jigar sings Baa Baa Black Sheep, topped with pulling off sit ups. We rest our case.

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein- Just say it already

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’s Raman (Karan Patel) and Ishita (Divyanka Tripathi) are clearly in love. Where the same is obvious to us, it isn’t to them. The world will come to an end, mankind will settle on a planet in a galaxy far far away but Raman and Ishita will refuse to say ‘I Love You’ to each other. A recent episode saw Raman filing divorce papers against Ishita, and leaving for Singapore. Ishita learns about this and rushes to the airport to stop him. Where we assume the chasing game would end, it continues to the point of passengers forming a human chain in the middle of the airport, to trap Raman and Ishita. So security checks and boarding takes a back seat, when Raman and Ishita’s love problems come knocking. Cupid or plain stupid?

Madhubala-Ek Ishq Ek Junoon- A funny murder

Though Madhubala-Ek Ishq Ek Junoon is not an going show, the plot it followed deserves a mention on the list. A cold blooded murder is synonymous with emotions of shock, fear and terror. But can a murder be funny? The one in Madhubala certainly was! So Raj Kumar (Vivian D’Sena) regains his memory and comes back to seek his revenge from Abhay Kapoor, who has ill treated Madhu. RK points a gun at AK’s forehead, makes him kneel at Madhu’s feet and recall his sins. Till here, it all made sense. They lose the plot, literally, when RK forces alcohol down AK’s throat, shoots him and finally hangs him to the fan. While the whole murder sequence seemed like a rip off of a C-grade thriller, what was mind numbing was AK’s stone face during the same. Every action has a reaction, defined Newton once. AK however, defied the theory with his act. Let’s just say that if RK had threatened a mannequin instead, it wouldn’t have made much difference.

It’s a wrap. Tell us which TV show according to you had the most bizarre plot. Post your votes in the box below!
