No surprises here! After being slammed with plagiarism charges, the case against Lingaa has been dismissed, conveniently just before film’s release
When filmmaker KR Ravi Rathinam filed a petition at Madras High Court, alleging Rockline Venkatesh and director KS Ravikumar for ripping off the plot of his film, Mullai Vanam 999, we all knew where the case was headed. And finally the court has given their verdict on plagiarism charges. And there is no surprise here as The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has given Rajinikanth’s Lingaa a clean chit, dismissing the petitioner’s claim on the plot of the film.
This seems to have become a trend in the industry as legal cases are being filed on big films left, right and centre, only to be dismissed later before film’s release. Earlier this year AR Murugadoss found himself in a legal battle over the story of his film Kaththi starring Vijay and Samantha. And as expected Kaththi was given a clean chit before the release. Same was the case with Murugadoss’ previous film Thuppakki.
With more and more plagiarism cases cropping up, I wonder if the filmmakers have started resorting to legal charges as a bid to attain publicity. As they say,’Any publicity is good publicity.’
