The 10 minute long video gives you interesting insights about the film

After leaving everyone awestruck with some fantastic music and visually appealing trailer, I disappointed the fans when its release got postponed this Diwali. Now with the film gearing up for Pongal release, the makers have launched an equally enchanting making video, which takes you on a tour behind the scenes of the film.

Why I?

Many of us wondered why director Shankar chose the title I for his magnum opus. The ace filmmaker reveals that the apt title for the film was Azhagan or Anazhagan which means beauty in Tamil. But since there were films with the same title, director Shankar settled for I which also means beauty.

Vikram’s body builder role revealed

Chiyaan Vikram left many of us awestruck with his incredible physical transformation for the role of Lingesan, the body builder in I. The making video reveals that Lingesan is a local Chennai guy who aspires to be Mr Tamil Nadu and speaks in local slang. The filmmaker also revealed that Vikram’s body builder role was inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Merasalayitten making

Crooned by Anirudh Ravichander in AR Rahman’s composition, Merasalyitten is the biggest hit from the album. The song depicts Chennai born and brought up Lingesan’s feelings in colloquial Chennai Tamil. The making video also shows how the makers managed to transform a bike into Amy Jackson onscreen.

Gravity defying cycle stunts

Shankar hired China’s famous action director Peter Ming for choreographing some stunning stunts in the movie. Peter Ming got some of the best cycling champions in the country to perform gravity defying cycling stunts on the rooftop, where he mixed some Chinese action form along with international action styles.

Aila Aila song

The Aila Aila song seems to be one of the highlights of the film as Vikram reveals that the song is a composite of 7 ads combined into one. Director Shankar also shared his excitement for telling 7 different stories in span of few seconds through the entire song.

Vikram’s transformation for hunchback crippled role

Director Shankar wanted Vikram’s cripple look to be aesthetically ugly as the hunchback cripple plays a major role in the film and the director didn’t want audience to cringe looking at him. He then approached WETA, a New Zealand based animation company which handled Vikram’s make up for the role. Chiyaan Vikram lost around 25 kgs for the role of cripple.
