Did you know that Amitabh Bachchan adores Dilip Kumar and in fact, is a big admirer of the thespian? Though Big B is a superstar in his own right he thinks of Dilip Kumar as a bigger superstar. Today, we see actors take pride in doing remakes of Amitabh Bachchan’s Don, Zanjeer and Agneepath.
Like them, Amitabh Bachchan, too, in his younger days, enacted several remakes of Dilip Kumar.
The 1978 film Ganga Ki Saugandh, which saw Bachchan play the lead role, was actually a remake of Dilip Kumar’s superhit Gunga Jumna. The remake did rather well. Likewise, Bachchan played a triple role in Mahaan, which Dilip Kumar had earlier experimented with in Bairaag. Remember, Bachchan’s obsession with the doll in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar? Well, that was a straight lift from Dilip Kumar’s role in Aadmi.
Big B’s wish of working with his idol came true in Ramesh Sippy’s Shakti. Ironically, many say Bachchan excelled Dilip in Shakti. Try telling that to Bachchan and he’ll reply modestly, “There can be only one Dilip Kumar. How can I even think of surpassing him?’
