It would only be an unfair competition if we were to compare Haider and Bang Bang for, while Haider was released in 1100 screens Bang Bang had a whole 4150 screens across the country to itself! Which is more than twice the number of screens!
And then, the Hrithik Roshan-Katrina Kaif starrer is an out and out commercial entertainer, the Shahid Kapoor starrer is virtually an arthouse film, that being another reason for non-comparison. But despite all that, it’s commendable the way Haider is holding against Bang Bang.
Director Siddharth Anand’s Bang Bang earned approximately Rs 80 crores till Sunday. Breakup: Thursday Rs 24.5 crores, Friday Rs 19.5. crores, Saturday Rs 16.5 and Sunday roughly Rs 19-20 crores.
On the other hand, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider earned Rs 15 crores. Breakup: Thursday Rs 4.5 crores, Friday Rs 4.95 crores, Saturday Rs 5.20 crores and Sunday approximately Rs 5.5 crores.
Distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi informs, “There’s no comparing the box office business of Haider and Bang Bang considering their screen count. With limited number of screens Haider is doing well as compared to Bang Bang. Shahid has been able to bring in a good number of footfalls this time. With no impressive line up of films next week, we won’t be surprised if the multiplex and single theatre owners continue to screen the two films which may be an added advantage of a week for both Haider and Bang Bang. With Bakri Eid holiday today, the collections today may be impressive.”
