Tamil actress Maya’s suicide attempt for Jayalalithaa foiled!

The not so popular character artiste rose to fame, when she threatened to burn herself at commissioner’s office, aiming to sacrifice her life for former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa

Onlookers witnessed a high voltage drama when a woman along with her child attempted suicide in front of police commissioner’s office. The woman was later identified as Tamil film actress Maya who had acted in handful of films like Garjanai and Amarakaaviyam . The swift action from the officials foiled the suicide attempt.

When inquired, the actress revealed that she was upset with court’s sentence of imprisonment to J Jayalalithaa and that she wished to sacrifice her life for Amma. “Maya had come along with her daughter and a can of kerosene. Both tried to self-immolate themselves, but they were luckily stopped by officials on duty,” said a police official from Vepery police station.

“She decided to end her as well as her daughter’s life because she was upset with the verdict against Jayalalithaa. They wanted to sacrifice their lives for the sake of Amma (Jayalalithaa),” added the official. While the police in Tamil Nadu has been striving hard to maintain law and order in a volatile situation, incidents like this prove that Jayalalithaa has tremendous support not only amongst the common man but also in Kollywood.
