Shah Rukh Khan: Happy New Year is like The Full Monty meets Ocean’s 11!

Farah Khan’s musical extravaganza Happy New Year starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah will finally hit the screens next week on October 24. The film has managed to create great buzz and is likely to storm box office. However, at the same time HNY is said to be similar to quite a few Hollywood films. The comparison is but natural because the film’s theme is quite common which is dance heist. When we met SRK recently, we quizzed the actor about the same and asked him if he was apprehensive about taking up the project for very same reason.

Here’s what he said: “Yes, I wasn’t apprehensive but I knew comparisons would be made. As a matter of fact, when I and Farah discussed the film, we were very open and she said, ‘You know it’s like The Full Monty meets Oceans 11.’ And that’s what the film is. But we haven’t taken anything from either of the films. The heist will look similar because in heist you do the same thing – break a lock and all that. But I don’t think combination of these two films have been made. It’s a strange genre and a difficult one as well. I can go completely wrong but it’s a risk taking commercial film. So when Farah told me the story, I wasn’t apprehensive but I knew people would say, ‘It’s like that dance film.”
