At Happy New Year’s music launch, Deepika Padukone made heads turn in a gorgeous Sabyasachi Mukherjee sari. Keeping it simple, she let the nine-yard do the talking. Understated diamond-studded earrings, jootis and a messy up-do completed the look.
At times, net saris can be garish. But this one worked, especially its intricate embroidery. So, what didn’t work? To start with, the blouse – which was somewhat like a long jacket from the back. The cuff of the blouse was a bit overdone. But never mind.
Full marks to Deepika though. She carried it off with classic grace. Doesn’t her elegance and poise remind one of Bollywood’s ultimate style icon, Waheeda Rehman?
Or, maybe we are stretching it too far.
