Generation Y is making inroads into Bollywood, and that is a good news indeed for the industry which otherwise was relying only 7-8 big names for last so many years. With Tiger Shroff scoring a solid hit with Heropanti which is now all set to touch the Rs. 50 crore mark today, he is pretty much set for being the only debutant to be finding a place in this club with a solo hero launch opposite a new leading lady.
Yes, Student Of The Year did cross the Rs. 50 crore mark but then it was a two hero film with Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra sharing credits. Also, Raanjhanaa scored around Rs. 60 crore for Dhanush, though Sonam Kapoor was an established actress. Otherwise, as a solo lead, Arjun Kapoor held the record of a highest grosser for a debut film with Ishaqzaade bringing home around Rs. 48 crores.
Now Tiger Shroff is all set to cross that with Sajid Nadiadwala's Heropanti for which the producer has bet his money on a newcomer for the first time ever.
"Well, it is a good time for newcomers to be accepted. Audience want fresh flavor now and our acceptance is very good change happening in the industry. It should help us all eventually in a journey going forward," says Tiger in a calm and stable tone.
Coming from someone who at one point in time was not so confident about his launch, it is a big turnaround indeed for Tiger.
"Honestly, sometimes it all became a little too overbearing," confesses Tiger, "I was in stress and tension all the time that how would people think about me. Moreover, being my father's son, it was all the more pressure 'ki kya main kar paoonga'. Ultimately it was my sportsman mentality that kept me going. I knew that I had to prove myself and also show the truth that I am very different from my father. Guess that worked after all."
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala isn't overtly surprised though and is delighted that his conviction in Tiger, Kriti Sanon and of course Sabbir Khan paid off.
Says Sajid, "I have always worked with people who generate positive vibes. Over last 20 years, I have forged relationships that have been for the keeps. As for newcomers like Tiger, Kriti and Sabbir, I could sense what they are capable of. It is always wonderful when my conviction is also acknowledged by the audience. Thankfully Heropanti has done quite well. God forbid, even if the results would have been as huge, my relationship with them, both personally and professionally, wouldn't have changed one bit."
