Juhi Chawla: I am extremely happy after Kolkatta Knight Riders’ second victory in IPL!

In an exclusive interview, the Gulaab Gang actor talks about the recent IPL victory, films and more

Juhi Chawla is in party mode and she has been screaming her lungs out. And why not? After all, her team Kolkata Knight Riders, which she co-owns with Shah Rukh Khan has won the IPL trophy for the second time. We caught up with the chirpy actor over the phone, and despite having a bad throat, she spoke to us about the huge victory, life after Gulaab Gang and more. Excerpts from the conversation…

Happy with a second IPL win?

Yes, I am extremely happy after our second victory in IPL. When we won it for the first time, it was indeed really special. But winning it second time is absolutely fantastic.

Who was your biggest competition this season?

For some reason I had a very good feeling about Preity’s (Zinta) team Kings XI Punjab. And yes it did turn out that they were the strongest team throughout this season.

After Bengaluru and Kolkata, will there be a party in Mumbai too?

No, I don’t think. Our biggest celebration was bringing the cup back to Kolkatta. For me it was about bringing the cup to Kolkata and the entire Bengal celebrating. So there won’t be a party in Mumbai.

What plans for IPL 8?

First it’s Champions League, which will happen in a few months. Our team will first play there. So no plans about IPL 8 as of now. Our focus is on the Champions League.

What’s happening on the film front?

I have a guest appearance in this film titled 100 Foot Journey. So you will see me in that in August. And if I do some more work, you will know about it.

After Gulaab Gang, are there any more negative characters offered to you?

(Laughs) Not yet. I haven’t received any offer as exciting as that. For the first time, I stepped out of my comfort zone and did something truly different. And I would like to do something as exciting as that from now on. So I haven’t taken up any project that came my way post Gulaab Gang.

Are you expecting awards this year for your portrayal of the deadly politician?

I received rave reviews from the audiences and critics. Everybody said the same thing about me. And yes it was different from what I did in my entire career of 25 years. So I really hope that I win some awards. And I have won one already and I am absolutely happy with that.

Are you open to work in TV soaps, even Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor have done it?

You know that is the kind of offers I received recently. But I didn’t take it on. I think Gulaab Gang has spoiled me. So if there is something different and interesting on television, I would surely like to do it. I would not like to do a role, which you have already seen me portraying. So if I come on TV, I want it to be very special.

Which is your favourite TV serial/show?

I don’t watch TV much. But from whatever I see, I really enjoy watching those talent shows in which children are participating. They really surprised me with their dancing skills. And of course there is Kapil Sharma’s show (Comedy Nights with Kapil).

Will you follow Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 considering your Gulaab Gang co-star, Madhuri Dixit Nene is a judge on the show?

I will try to. If I happen to watch any episode, I will definitely watch Madhuri and listen to her comments. It’s a very interesting to show, so yes, I would love to watch it.
