Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s song from the Abhishek Varman’s 2 States, which is out now, has parts which were shot at IIM-A (Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad) which is a first for a Bollywood film.
The reason why a part of the movie was shot in IIM-A was because the book on which it is based is also set in the institute. While they didn’t have many difficulties getting permissions, the weather was playing a bigger spoil sport, as it was just too hot when they had gone for the shot!
Apart from IIM-A premises, the actors also filmed at real locations in the city. “It was important to capture life in that city and not cheat by shooting in, say Mumbai, and passing it off as Ahmedabad. The local elements — people and buses — add to the realistic element of the song,” says a crew member, adding that wherever they shot, there were traffic jams and the crowds went crazy.
2 States, produced by Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Ltd, releases April 18.
