47 year old AR Rahman probably never though life would be so generous with him and take him to heights he has never seen. It is not everyday that talent like his sees the clear skies.
AR Rahman’s journey wasn’t an easy one. Like everyone he too had his share of ups and downs. He began playing the keyboard at a very tender age. AR Rahman went on to learn other instruments like synthesizer, guitar and harmonium. Before entering Bollywood, his major stint was his involvement with the rock band Nemesis Avenue.
Rahman’s breakthrough project was in the year 1992. He was approached by director Mani Ratnam to compose the music score for his upcoming film Roja. The music of the film went on to be so successful that AR Rahman bagged the National Award for the best music director that year. This made him a big name down South.
AR Rahman’s ticket to Bollywood was with the film Rangeela in the year 1995. By then it was established that AR Rahman’s music was commendable and he won several awards for his music direction.
Again in the years 1998 and 1999, AR Rahman’s two projects Dil Se.. and Taal were massive hit. This meant AR Rahman was scoring high on the charts of best music directors in the industry.
His best films over the years were Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, Saathiya, Swades, Guru, Jodha Akbar, Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, Raavan, Rockstar, Jab Tak Han Jaan, Raanjhanaa etc
A special mention about the film Slumdog Millionaire which went on to be the biggest and the most greatest achievement of AR Rahman’s life. The song Jai Ho became the biggest hit of that year and it took AR Rahman striaght to the Oscars and made sure he returned home with the black lady!
AR Rahman’s journey so far has been wonderful and we look forward to his upcoming projects such as Highway, all set for release this weekend!
